drive fast, BMW, Loan, Insuance

Not just celebrities experience stalking. Sadly, in the US, 6% of men and 15% of women have experienced being followed at least once. Driving while being followed might make our hearts race and we are more likely to make a poor decision.

ViralCars has done research on how to keep oneself safe in such a scary situation.

1. Confirm that you’re being followed

The first thing you should do is maintain your composure and avoid overanalyzing the situation. Take a turn that nobody would accidentally take. for example, take four right turns to get to the same road. Or, if you’re on a highway, choose an exit, but rather of turning off the highway, stay on the motorway.

You might also switch to the right lane and accelerate slowly. The vehicles following you must pass. It’s possible that someone is actually following you if after taking these steps is still in your rearview mirror.

2. Keep driving, Don’t STOP!

The best thing to do for you is to continue driving. Avoid attempting to get out of your car because you could be attacked. It only takes a few seconds for someone to break into an unlocked vehicle, so make sure to lock your doors and close the windows.

3. Don’t show that you noticed them

Try not to irritate the chaser and avoid revealing that you are aware of being followed, even though keeping calm in this situation is challenging. Don’t spend a lot of time looking in the rearview mirror when driving and carry on as usual. If they assume they were not exposed, it will be better.

4. Prepare to call the police

Call the police after attempting to obtain as much information as you can about the vehicle behind you, such as the driver’s look, the brand and model of the vehicle, the license plate number, where you are traveling, etc.

5. Don’t go home

The person that is following you could not be very familiar with you. Additionally, being on busy routes will prevent you from revealing where you live to your stalker.

Driving to the police station and waiting in the car for the officer to come from the building would be the best thing to do. They’ll escort you safely inside.

6. Try to maneuver a getaway

It is easier to escape an unwanted follower on roads where there are many vehicles and stop signs, try to swerve as the follower won’t be able to drive illegally because that will draw unwanted attention.

Whenever you stop at a red light, be prepared to escape traffic. Keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you so you may change lanes fast and easily avoid the pursuer.

Have you ever had someone follow you while you were driving? What do you think is important to remember in such situations?
